Grand Opening of Woodbridge Particle Foam Facility in Schwarzheide, Germany

Mississauga, ON, Canada, October 1, 2015 – The Formed Plastics division of The Woodbridge Group® is proud to announce the grand opening of Proseat’s new particle foam operation in Schwarzheide, Germany. This industry-leading automotive bead foam facility will supply products including: cargo storage, seat frames, occupant safety, acoustical solutions and protective packaging.

Leading OEMs continue to look to particle foams, such as expanded polypropylene (EPP) to decrease weight and enhance functionality within the vehicle interior. Material properties such as: low weight, structural capabilities, energy management and acoustic benefits, make particle foams a winning material in today’s vehicles. In fact, a new application for polypropylene, an innovative center console developed for BMW, was recognized at the last SPE Award ceremony.

Ghazwan Taka, General Manager, Formed Plastics Business Unit, The Woodbridge Group, states, “This new 5000 square meter facility will produce lightweight products in response to our commitment to the automotive industry and its strive towards achieving CAFE targets globally. We plan to fully utilize our solid presence in Europe with Proseat, to develop and expand more applications, replacing a range of heavier components, and continue to aim at being the global automotive EPP parts supplier of choice.”

Woodbridge, along with its joint venture partners currently operates particle foam manufacturing facilities in Canada, USA, Mexico and France. As a joint venture, Proseat also has a development center in Europe. With the addition of this facility, Woodbridge aims to drive customer satisfaction from initial concept, to design and engineering, and through to mass production for OEM and Tier 1 customers, requiring particle foam support for global platforms built in Europe.

The Woodbridge Group® and its partners in The World Polyurethane Alliance™ operate 64 facilities in 17 countries, as global leaders in the development and production of polyurethane and expanded polypropylene products. Automotive applications include components for seating, structural support, interior soft trim products, headliner systems, cargo management solutions, and engineered products for occupant protection and acoustical management.
